My return to TV poker
So last night was my return to televised poker. I have had my reasons for not playing them over the years but I have a big thank you to give my sponsors BETFRED POKER who have been very genorous to me. What I did notice over the years with televised poker is that it is mainly boring. People I talk to or who call me and ask me what is all the same crap on TV? There are only a few personalities and the game in general is boring to watch....... Imagine, they think this and they are only watching the highlights.... The main problem is that people are playing to survive most of the time and not to win! While playing they do not want to have fun and they have put up hard earned cash to try to win a seat in the final and take down first place. This requires a lot of concentration from a lot of people! If they talk or relax they give to much info to the good readers in the game so they are boring, understandable but not great TV. People could arguee and many players will have a different answer for a question but the truth is 2nd place is worthless, infact most of the time it is the same as coming last apart from the crap shoot turbo you get to play in for another TV apperance to try to win a seat in the semi final. On the other hand you do not want to donk your chips of as you only have 100K to start with. Game plan...... Most players try to have one before they play! Why im not sure to make them feel better I guess. I take each day/hand/game as it comes Why make a plan when I do not know what im planning against! OK you can do research on the players but people play different in different circumstances.... I underestimated the Scandi Kimmo when we played, infact I think he may have been the better player in the heat on the day. He was the underdog no one knew and he infact had an edge over the rest of us, I think. To put it into prospective the tounamnets he had to win to get a seat in that heat he has to be a good player and have a great understanding of the game. I tried and I tried and I tried again and I for the first time in I think in over 5 years I actually lost control of my breathing in my 3rd attempt to 3 barrell him with 5 2. The hand was interesting as there were a lot of factors to it. 1. I had done this to him twice already and mind games came into play. 2. He just lost a big pot so his chips were more valuable to him. 3. I made a larger bet %wise to the pot than the other times 4. I told him before I bet what I thought he had. How does this help? If you dont know I cant tell you but it was not just crazyness that some people might think. All I knew was if I get called here I may as well pack up my bags and give up the game. My return to TV poker would have been a disaster and I would have had to hold my head in shame. As it happens My belif in myself and my game was on top form and my confidence was maybe a little to much. I went to play a game and I played it well. People will always say you got lucky you did this etc.. but the truth is you need to have a bit of luck to win anything. No-one sees the bad luck when you finish 6th or 8th in big tourneys or even 3rd, they only remember the winner and if you lost a huge pot to the chip leader to runner runner or a 2 outer no one knows, in fact no one care's, they only see the results. So yes I was lucky. I cracked AA heads up. I won with 5 3 to whatever he had but it is a mathamatical game and I want to win a 40 60 rather than play a turbo heat and have to do it all again. Plus the blinds were then 10K/20K or even 15K/30K. The hands you dont see are the big pocket pais I throw away pre flop or the ones I call with like TT on the button to a small raise and the flop comes 7 5 2 and I fold to a bet when I know im behind... That is why I love poker and poker loves me Feel free to let me know what you thought of last nights heat, your feed back would be greatly appreciated. Please try to avoid writing bad things about other people. (write as you wish about me) Semi final will be shown 1st June. PZ
